  20. Windows 3.0 Compatibility
  21.  
  22. This section contains information about using NetWare Lite with
  23. Windows 3.0.  Follow the suggestions outlined below to operate
  24. your Windows 3.0 environment.
  25.  
  26. Network vs. Local Installation of Windows
  27. Install Windows locally, do not attempt to install it from a
  28. Network Directory.  Follow the regular installation procedures
  29. using Windows diskettes.  Windows INSTALL may indicate the
  30. presence of a "Microsoft Network (or 100% compatible)" network,
  31. change this selection to "No Network Installed".

  33. Before Entering Windows
  34. It is suggested that you set up your NetWare Lite environment
  35. before running Windows.  Such operations include: logging into
  36. the network, mapping drives, and capturing ports.
  37.  
  38. Mapping Drives
  39. If a server to which you have mapped a drive goes down, Windows
  40. will display a message indicating that the drive does not contain
  41. any files.  Any attempt to access that drive will fail.  Under
  42. regular DOS, this error is trapped and the client saves enough
  43. information to automatically restore the connection to that
  44. network directory when the downed server returns to the network. 
  45. Windows prevents regular DOS from trapping this error.  To
  46. restore connections to your mapped drive, exit Windows and
  47. re-issue the NET MAP command when the server is back on the
  48. network.

  50. Printing
  51. Use the NET CAPTURE command described in your NetWare Lite user
  52. manual to re-direct printing from your LPT1 or LPT2 ports to a
  53. network printer before you enter Windows.  Configure your printer
  54. in Windows to either the LPT1.OS2 or LPT2.OS2 ports depending on
  55. which port you captured before entering Windows.  Workstations
  56. that are configured as both server and client should use LPT1.OS2
  57. or LPT2.OS2 to print from Windows.

  59. Local Network Printers
  60. Once a printer is assigned as a Network Printer, you should only
  61. access that printer through the network.  You may have a printer
  62. attached to your workstation that has been defined as a Network
  63. Printer.  In this case, you should capture a port when you wish
  64. to print to it.  If you print to it directly (not using capture),
  65. you may cause print job corruption.

  67. NetWare Lite Messages
  68. Messages sent to network users through NetWare Lite will only
  69. appear when you open a DOS prompt or exit Windows.
